Gene Thompson

Gene takes a different approach to his job than other attorneys. He draws on his previous career in customer service and small business management to relate to clients on a personal level. When he was in law school interning at a local law firm, Gene noticed attorneys often explain things to clients in highly technical legal terms leaving clients confused about their case. Often clients would leave Gene's supervising attorney's office with a puzzled look and ask him what the discussion they just had with the attorney meant.

Gene believes his job is making the complex understandable.

Gene took the lessons learned in his previous career along with these observations made early on in his legal training to heart. From this Gene realized the importance of taking the time to talk to clients in regular terms. Making complex legal issues understandable is the foundation of his practice. Gene stands out because of his attention to both the details of his job and his uncommon ability to help clients understand their case or estate plan. Gene strives to give his clients the individualized attention they deserve.

Gene is drawn to his practice through his life experiences.

Gene had a lifetime dream of becoming a lawyer and following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, who was also small-town lawyer in rural Iowa. The idea making one of the focuses of his practice estate planning, probate, and elder-law did not come to Gene until he was in law school. While completing his law degree he had to face both nursing home abuse and other end of life issues relating to one of his own relatives. These experiences led Gene to devote his practice to helping families with the most challenging of life's issues.

Gene has a common sense approach to being a lawyer with an uncommon academic pedigree.

In addition to being a common sense lawyer Gene also has an outstanding academic background. Gene earned his Bachelor's Degree and Master of Organizational Leadership from St. Ambrose University, one of the Mid-West's most prestigious liberal arts universities. He went on to complete his Juris Doctor, with Honors, from the University of Tulsa where he served as Notes and Comments Editor for the Energy Law Journal. Gene additionally completed an advanced Master of Laws degree, through the University of Alabama, Tusacaloosa, in Tax law. In this program Gene focused on estate and gift taxation and estate planning.

Gene is committed to Oklahoma and his community.

Gene is a member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar Association, Tulsa County Bar Association, and the Creek County Bar Association. He serves on the board of the Creek County Bar as secretary. Gene also is a member of the Hudson-Hall-Wheaton chapter of American Inns of Court in Tulsa. He additionally serves on the board of directors of Sapulpa's local food bank.
